Inspiration
A small workshop nestled within an old growth forest in rural Chester County Pennsylvania, is home to Woodland Woodworx. Born and raised in this idyllic landscape, as well as my passion for woodworking and design, has been the inspiration for creating my handcrafted artwork and percussion instruments. Each piece is meticulously created, transforming hand-selected hardwoods into unique works of art.
My journey as a self-taught craftsman began during my time as a Penn State Engineering student when I embarked on a personal project designing handcrafted percussion instruments. This hobby quickly flourished into a small business, known as Woodland Percussion. As my addiction to woodworking grew, and my interest in elemental, metaphysical, and esoteric symbolism evolved, the need for a new creative outlet was certain, hence Woodland Woodworx was born.
Craftsmanship
All of my pieces are individually handcrafted and begin with a sketch of my design, which I then digitally recreate so it can be transferred to the medium I choose as my “canvas”. I hand select the lumber that is to be used, based on the species and grain pattern that will best compliment my artwork. A plethora of woodworking tools are used to shape and contour each piece. Though the specific processes may vary depending on my vision, I utilize a combination of pyrography, laser engraving, and carving to achieve the desired effect.
My stone and crystal inlay process adds a unique vibe to the pieces I integrate it into. In keeping with the inherent theme of using natural elements in my artwork, I only use ethically sourced finely ground natural stones and minerals. Lastly, all of my wood pieces are finished with an environmentally friendly mixture of natural oils to both protect and enhance the beauty of the wood.
Aspiration
In my constant quest to further my skills and knowledge base in both the artist realm and modern manufacturing, I continuously experiment with new techniques and mediums. I take pride in working and collaborating with like-minded artisans, craftsmen, and innovators from a wide variety of backgrounds and industries. My vision for Woodland Woodworx is to become a hub for motivated creators to design and develop new ideas and make them a reality.
I feel there is nothing more gratifying than transforming an entity in its purest form into an expressive work of art.
